Guidance system for University Campus (2019/20)
The aim of this project was to design a cohesive guidance system for NDU, WIFI and WKO St. Pölten.
Starting the project, I took a closer look on the existing guidance system.
WKO (= The Austrian Federal Economic Chamber) is the owner of all buildings. WIFI (= institution for economic promotion) is leasing both the WIFI and the NDU building. NDU (= New Design University) is a sub company of WIFI. Therefore, the main design process my be done for NDU, but also has to meet the requirements of WIFI and WKO.
So I took notes of the main arrival zones. Then I marked the most prominent features of the environment which people use as a guidance from the streets to the buildings. The main three buildings of the Campus (WKO, WIFI and NDU) got a slight 3D effect, so they catch the attention first. Also, icons were added, so people can adjust their goals according to their needs (f. e. when leaving a building during lunch time).
The guidance system also involves directional indicators such as stelae and arrows. They should support finding the right building or seminar room in seconds.
